Father’s Day

We aren’t sure if it’s just us, but we always feel stumped when it comes to father’s day planning. Our biggest fear is being too cliche or boring with our gifts and activities leading us to feel confused with what we should do. One thing we do know with 100% certainty that we always ask ourselves one thing: what would dad like?. All dads are different, some like to fish while others like to golf so we decided to be fair and make this post about delicious manly eats. We’re thinking bacon, BBQ and more!

Don’t forget to click on the photos to link to the recipe.

Classic Mother’s Day Food Ideas and Recipes

Let’s face it, Mom’s have one of the toughest jobs out there and honouring them one day a year doesn’t really cut it BUT, one thing we learned from our moms is that nothing says “thank you & I love you” like a delicious meal.

Traditionally most people celebrate Mother’s day by having brunch-like food. We realize that pancakes and coffee might not be your thing, so we compiled our favourite meal ideas (don’t worry – they’re easy too!) for you to recreate for your mama!

Breakfast/ Brunch:

In a rush? Pick up your mother’s favorite pastries, croissants, bread, jam and coffee.

Feeling like Julia Child? Roll up your sleeves and start your morning by making eggs, french toast, pancakes and waffles.

Lunch/Dinner:

If breakfast or brunch isn’t do-able this year you can always plan a more hearty meal like a lunch or dinner.

In a rush? Wine & Cheese!

Feeling like Julia Child? No matter what your culinary desires are (health concious or not) these staple dishes are sure to please your palate and impress your most important guest of the day!

Flowers are a classic Mother’s day gift that you should never forget. Peonies are our personal favorite.

Tea Party

5 things you need to know to host a fabulous tea party:

1. Set a time: Tea parties are usually reserved for afternoon. Choose a time between 1:00 & 5:00 and block off at least two hours.

2. Table Decor: Have fun choosing your tea pot, tea cups, and saucers. Mix and match these with your tea tray, sugar bowl, milk jug, and platters. Remember to provide a serving spoon for every food or condiment that people must help themselves to. Decorative napkins and doilies are also a cute way to add personality to the table.

4. Food: Place a variety of sweet and savoury finger foods on platers. Tea party favourites usually  include crustless cucumber sandwiches and a variety of scones and macaroons.

5. Etiquette: There are many rules on tea party etiquette, but we’re just going to highlight two. As the host/hostess, you are required to serve the first round of tea. This involves filling the teacup only 3/4 full allowing for guests to add milk or hot water to their cup. It’s also important to note that when the tea party is finished, you gently pick up your napkin from its centre and place it to the left of your plate.

As you can see hosting a fabulous tea party is easy. The real fun is determining who you want to invite to your party, because that’s what matters the most! For more inspiration on tea party decor check out Tea Party.
