#H5TRENDS // Tommy Hilfiger’s Vibrant Miami Home Featured in Architectural Digest

“I told Martyn [the designer], ‘If it’s not shagadelic or groovy, it’s not coming into the house,'” Dee recounts, describing her criteria for furniture and finishes. True to form, Bullard obliged with a kaleidoscopic array of colors, materials, and furnishings, all deployed in vignettes that scream glamour and sex appeal.

#H5TRENDS // High Gloss Kitchens

High-gloss finish repels dirty fingerprints better than any matte (and it’s easier to wipe clean). It will also simulate the look of metal or glass in a modern setting. To shine up your smooth cabinets, paint a high-gloss clear acrylic varnish over your final coat to add depth and effect a glassy finish // Thisoldhouse.com

High gloss designs allows you to be bold with your color choices but still remain modern and edgy. When choosing colors you can consider many things like: your personality, the mood of your home, favorite color and if it fits your wall paing and decor.

Style of the Month: Shabby Chic

According to shelterness.com – The main characteristic of shabby chic interior design is aged furniture. It could be chosen for its appearance of age with all these sings of wear and tear or it can be distressed to achieve the appearance of an antique. Shabby chic is a soft style that fits perfectly for cottages but can be used at your home too. It can easily add a feminine touch to any interior and make it quite unique.

We love to be gender neutral with decor but let’s admit, shabby chic is definitely one of the more feminine decor styles; ladies rejoice!

Bedroom:

HGTV Says: “Pink is the most popular color in the shabby chic decorating palette. When it comes to fabrics, dainty rose prints are the go-to choice.”

Kitchen:

Greeson & Fast Design Says: Take an existing kitchen and add antique architectural elements and a white wash

Bathroom:

Greeson & Fast Design Says: Remodel a master bathroom with vintage lighting and a copper soaking tub

Living room:

HGTV Says: When creating a shabby chic look, it’s easy to get carried away with accessories, decor and fabrics galore. According to interior designer Lulu Tapp, less is more when it comes to bulky furniture and accessories, especially in a shabby chic design. “Allow for movement throughout the room when adding sofas, chairs and other large pieces of furniture; you should emulate a comfortable feeling throughout the space,” she says. And one of her top pieces of advice: Avoid clutter at all costs.

Colour Crush: Seafoam Green

Seafoam Green is everyones favourite colour crush because it makes a bold yet subtle statement. Look through the following images if Seafoam Green is a colour that you’ve been eyeing for your home renovations but you aren’t too sure how to make it work.

Seafoam green falls under the pastel spectrum and pairs beautifully with whites, neutrals and other pastel colours.

There are really only two ways to decorate with Seafoam green because it can be both the statement colour of your room or it can be an accessory. We suggest buying some accessories before fully committing to the colour.

Style of the Month: Contemporary Style

According to Better Homes & Gardens, Contemporary decor is: defined by clean lines with a casual atmosphere, open spaces, neutral colours and elements and materials inspired by nature.

We at H5 believe that contemporary design is the perfect balance of both traditional and modern/minimalist design and decor. Most of our homes are designed and built in a traditional fashion but that does not stop us from decorating our homes with a more modern and contemporary flare.

Keep it sleek  with a taupe and white colour scheme. Don’t forget to add your one ‘Pièce de résistance’:

Incorporate flat-front cabinets to the sleek stainless-steel appliances, when it comes to the kitchen and dining area, it’s best to keep it simple. Contemporary design often relies on materials, rather than colour, to give a space visual interest. Granite, stainless steel, wood, and rattan are visually compelling elements in the kitchen. Acacia wood, lucite chairs and one bold statement piece are also great accessories for the dining room.

Black and white creates a neutral stage for sleek furnishings and rich accessories, such as velvet throw pillows on the bed.

Contemporary design turns your ordinary bathroom into a spa retreat. White walls, wood floors, woodwork, and a tub right in the centre of the bathroom makes the space feel airy and light. Unique accessories and a touch of bold colours  add visual interest. All of the space’s elements should remain subtle so that it does not disturb the serene vibe.

Classic Mother’s Day Food Ideas and Recipes

Let’s face it, Mom’s have one of the toughest jobs out there and honouring them one day a year doesn’t really cut it BUT, one thing we learned from our moms is that nothing says “thank you & I love you” like a delicious meal.

Traditionally most people celebrate Mother’s day by having brunch-like food. We realize that pancakes and coffee might not be your thing, so we compiled our favourite meal ideas (don’t worry – they’re easy too!) for you to recreate for your mama!

Breakfast/ Brunch:

In a rush? Pick up your mother’s favorite pastries, croissants, bread, jam and coffee.

Feeling like Julia Child? Roll up your sleeves and start your morning by making eggs, french toast, pancakes and waffles.

Lunch/Dinner:

If breakfast or brunch isn’t do-able this year you can always plan a more hearty meal like a lunch or dinner.

In a rush? Wine & Cheese!

Feeling like Julia Child? No matter what your culinary desires are (health concious or not) these staple dishes are sure to please your palate and impress your most important guest of the day!

Flowers are a classic Mother’s day gift that you should never forget. Peonies are our personal favorite.
